MyTouch 4G traveling?

I am traveling over seas to Costa Rica. I need my phone to text within my traveling group and to communicate back home but DO NOT want to incur any internet/data usage charges. I am planning to restore factory settings so not to have any apps that might use the internet and I am not signing into email when setting up my phone. In settings, I am disabling all syncing, wireless connections and mobile network connections. Am I missing anything that might use data or internet?
